Lightolier Company
Style Book, 1934–1935
Lightolier's 1934–1935 Style Book is both a product catalog and an argument about choosing fixtures. Its opening pages describe the company's New York showrooms as testing grounds for consumer response and frame lighting as permanent architectural equipment as well as room decoration.
The product sequence is exceptionally broad. Named Empire, Van Dyke, Colonial, Continental, Republic, Modern Art, Crystal, Dutch, and other series sit beside indirect bowls, breakfast-nook lights, porcelain fixtures, utility units, and outdoor lanterns. The juxtaposition is evidence that revival and modern designs were sold concurrently rather than replacing one another in a neat chronological line.
The Avery Library record dates the book 1934 from its colophon. The complete scan contains 104 images: a 96-page style book, covers and front matter, and a separate 1934–1935 list-price sheet.
