Using this site

The Old House Lights archive and guides are provided for reference and education. We work to be accurate, but dating and attribution of antique fixtures involves judgment; treat our guidance as informed opinion, not a guarantee of authenticity or value.

Historic catalog material

Catalog images are reproduced for historical reference. Much of the material we host is in the public domain (United States publications from before 1929); where material may be under copyright, we present it for educational reference, credit the source, and remove or license anything on legitimate request. If you hold rights to material shown here, contact archive@oldhouselights.com.

Orders

Fixtures are sold either directly (with payment processed by our payment provider) or through vetted partners, as noted on each listing. Restored antiques are one-of-a-kind; the piece you receive is the piece shown or its closest equivalent, and minor variation and honest age are part of the character of antique lighting.

Shipping

Lighting is fragile. We and our partners pack fixtures carefully and insure shipments. Glass shades are wrapped and shipped to minimize risk, and we'll always tell you what to expect before an order ships.

Returns

If a fixture arrives damaged, contact us within 7 days with photos and we'll make it right — replacement, repair, or refund. Returns of undamaged items are accepted within 14 days in original condition and packaging; return shipping is the buyer's responsibility except where we've made an error. Items fulfilled by partners follow that partner's stated policy, noted on the listing.

Safety

Antique fixtures should be inspected and, where needed, rewired by a qualified electrician before use. Restored fixtures we sell are rewired to operate safely; original wiring on any unrestored piece should be replaced.
